Apple Is Replacing Old iPhone Batteries Regardless of Diagnostic Test Results

Following reports of poor power performance in older phone models, Apple has announced customers with an iPhone 6 and above would be eligible for battery swaps. Despite this confirmation, the company failed to reveal how it would qualify which batteries were eligible for the discounted replacement of $29.

Currently, Apple provides replacements on the basis of a diagnostics test run by the Apple Genius Bar. The test checks if the battery can retain 80 percent of its original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles — any tested phones that cannot retain the said percentage is then eligible for a replacement.

However, Apple has now told MacRumors that it will replace batteries regardless of the diagnostic test results. While the announcement was welcomed by many, other customers complained of having to pay the original service price of $79. Although anecdotal rumors are surfacing of Apple refunding the price difference, this has yet to be confirmed by the company.

If you’re interested in running a diagnostics test on your phone you can schedule a Genius Bar appointment with your local Apple store via the Apple Support App. Alternatively, contact Apple support via phone, online chat, e-mail or Twitter to discuss options for battery replacements.

OFF–WHITE & KM20 Drop Collaborative Cyrillic Collection

Visit the original post to see all 9 images from this gallery.

Brand: KM20 x OFF–WHITE c/o Virgil Abloh

Season: Fall/Winter 2017

Key Pieces: The black Cyrillic script hoodie (slide 1 & 4) is the best piece of the collection by a country mile. OFF–WHITE’s signature name is written out in Cyrillic on the back and features a large black panther above the round box logo on both the front and back.

The “Temporary” track pants (slide 5) and hat (slide 7) go perfectly with the hoodie in what would be a stylish all-black look.

Editor’s Notes: This collaborative collection is called “Temporary” and sees America’s premier designer, Virgil Abloh, team up with Russian powerhouse KM20. The line features the word “temporary” in both English and Russian (Временный) and includes a full range of clothing and accessories from T-shirts, shirts, and hoodies to pants, caps, belts and socks.

The drop is the latest in collaborations KM20 has commissioned to celebrate the iconic store’s new location. Virgil Abloh was among the fisrt to see KM20’s new space back in May, which is when he came up with the idea for OFF–WHITE’s first “shop in shop” in Russia. As a result, this collection looks to be the first in an ongoing collaboration between the two labels so make sure you keep an eye out for any updates we may have in the future.

All pieces are marked with the powerful black panther image and are available exclusively at KM20 online and in store starting Tuesday, December 12.

Watch James Franco and Tommy Wiseau Get Friendly on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

To celebrate James Franco’s upcoming movie, The Disaster Artist, the actor sat down on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and brought out Tommy Wiseau to discuss likeness, representation, and accuracy in the newly released project.

Based on the book of the same name, the movie chronicles the making of Wiseau’s The Room which has since become a cult classic or as EW describes, the “Citizen Kane of bad movies.” The film which had a $6 million budget grossed less than $2000 in its opening but nonetheless did well to go onto a series of night screenings as the buzz caught on.

Wearing an interesting ensemble of stud belts, tandem with waistcoat and sunglasses, Wiseau walked out with a sweet charm and ultimately praised Franco for his performance, telling him “it was 99.9% accurate.” Wiseau, who is usually a secretive and quiet character, opened up about his personal life as Franco revealed some details over a mini-spat that the two had during the film’s editing stage.

In a lighthearted grilling session, we learn a little about the film itself, as well as previous projects Franco had worked on. Either way, it’s all in good fun with Wiseau adding “The Disaster Artist, I saw it three times and I think everyone in America should see it.”

For more, check out the video above. And if you haven’t seen it, check out the trailer for The Disaster Artist below.

Apple Releases Significant & Highly Unusual iOS 11 Update

Apple released a significant iOS 11 update over the weekend, a highly unusual step considering Apple usually releases updates on Tuesdays.

The update came hours after an iOS 11.1.2 bug started crashing iPhones using third-party apps that deployed recurring notifications for things like reminders.

Apple’s iOS 11.2 addresses this issue and includes a few new features as well. The biggest new feature is Apple Pay Cash (in the US), which allows users to send money to each other through iMessage, much like Venmo. The cash is then deposited on an Apple Pay Cash card in the Wallet app, which can be used to purchase goods through Apple Pay or transferred to a bank account.

iOS 11.2 also introduces fast wireless charging for the iPhone X and 8 models. The update introduces 7.5-watt speeds through Qi-based charging pads meaning devices can top up in a short period of time.

New live wallpapers have also been included in the update, along with some popups that explain the Control Center Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles that have changed.

If you’ve been experiencing the crash bug, sites like The Verge highly recommend that you download the new software update.

Next, read about how net neutrality could affect your favorite things on the internet.
