LoveSick: HOWLS

When a relationship meets its dissolution, the sense of loss left in its place can mirror true grief in its impact. In short film HOWLS, Argentinian directors Alexan Kevork Sarikamichian and Benjamin Baccetti trace the reverberations of a broken relationship, exploring a young woman’s emotional terrain as she reflects on what came before, and the cracks that began to appear.

Where memories and mementos serve as both solace and sources of pain, HOWLS considers the profound theme of loss within the context of this couple’s journey. Capturing the melancholic beauty of Buenos Aires on 16mm film, Sarikamichian and Baccetti use cinematic storytelling to transplant viewers inside their protagonist’s perspective – with the cityscape as a constant reminder of defining moments from their relationship.

Navigating the aftermath of her partner’s departure, the woman enters an unfamiliar phase under the weight of her heartbreak, adjusting to this new absence by reminiscing on the past. Painting grief as a universal experience, while encapsulating the essence of loss, HOWLS becomes a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, intended as a reminder of love’s ability to endure and overcome.
